UBE Completes Realignment of Injection Molding Machine Business and Commences Operation of Nagoya Factory

2020/08/03 News Release

On August 1, 2020, Ube Machinery Corporation, Ltd. (President: Hironori Miyauchi), the core company of the UBE Group's machinery business, absorbed two of its subsidiaries via merger as part of a realignment of its injection molding machine business. The two subsidiaries absorbed into Ube Machinery are U-MHI Platech Co., Ltd. (President: Yasuhiro Inoue) and U&M Plastic Solutions Co., Ltd. (President: Yasuhiro Inoue).

That same day, a new manufacturing facility in Minato-ku, Nagoya City constructed by U-MHI Platech commenced operation as the Nagoya Factory of Ube Machinery.

Additionally, on August 1, 2020, Ube Machinery Inc. (President: Ichiro Motoki) merged with U-MHI Platech America, Inc. (President: Yasuhiro Inoue). Both companies are North American subsidiaries of Ube Machinery.

1. Purpose of Realignment

Ube Machinery obtained 85% of the shares in U-MHI Platech from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (President & CEO: Seiji Izumisawa) on January 1, 2017. Ube Machinery has endeavored to combine the respective technologies, product lineups, and sales and servicing networks of Ube Machinery and U-MHI Platech to expand the injection molding machine business in the global market.

At the same time, the business conditions for the injection molding machine business have become increasingly challenging both in and outside of Japan. In order to further expand the business in the global market, there is a need to further strengthen the product development, manufacturing, and servicing to supply new value to customers.

Under these business conditions, Ube Machinery realigned its business as it started operation of its new plant, Nagoya Factory, built by U-MHI Platech in Minato-ku, Nagoya City. By establishing an efficient manufacturing framework for the global market that encompasses the North American market, the Ube Machinery Group will be better positioned to supply its global customer base with quality products and services. With the realignment, Ube Machinery will aim to increase its presence and expand its business in the injection molding machine market.
