UBE Establishes UBE Group Code of Conduct
UBE Corporation has established a new UBE Group Code of Conduct, replacing the former UBE Group Action Guidelines, which served until now as the foundation for the Group's ethical standards and guiding principles. This Code of Conduct is based on the UBE Group's philosophical framework—which comprises its Founding Principles, Purpose, Corporate Philosophy, and Management Principles—and will serve as a foundation for decision making and a standard for action for all individuals engaged in the Group's operations.
The Code of Conduct consists of five chapters. Four are structured around the UBE Group's Management Principles, which emphasize the Group's core values of ethics, safety and security, quality, and people; the fifth addresses responsible and sustainable procurement practices in supply chain management.
The Code incorporates key themes that corporations today are expected to address, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); access to water and sanitation; and respect for the rights of refugees and migrants. It also includes decision-making flow chart, checklists, practical case examples, guidance on reporting and consultation, and Q&A sections—reflecting the Group's values and providing a practical guide that employees can more easily apply when undertaking their everyday responsibilities.
In accordance with the Code of Conduct, all employees of the UBE Group will continue to carry out their daily duties with a strong sense of ethics. By making these efforts, the UBE Group seeks to earn even greater trust from its customers and broader society while creating value that shapes the future and contributing to social progress.

Internal Awareness Measures
As a part of its internal measures to spread awareness of the Code of Conduct, the UBE Group provides related e-learning on this Code to every individual across the Group. Following training, every individual* signs a document affirming their understanding of, agreement to abide by, and intention to put into practice the Code of Conduct. In this way, we foster an approach toward viewing the Code of Conduct as personal action guidelines among individual employees, and this consciousness in turn, furthers the practice of such corporate ethics be across the entire organization.
- *We respect ideas and beliefs as a part of freedom of expression and may exempt an individual from providing a signature if said individual provides assurances that they understand that this code applies universally to all employees.
In addition, to deepen understanding of the values and actions held to be important in the course of day-to-day operations, we utilize a selection framework containing a list of 39 topics related to employees' individual working lifestyles. Each employee may select two matters they feel to be especially significant and each department compiles the results of the employee selections to identify the top three items to focus on moving forward and sets specific targets to achieve their realization.
